At the age of 5, his parents divorced and he lived with his mother after the divorce. Lupe Fiasco’s family was Muslim which explains the ‘Muhammad’ in his name. His Father, named Gregory, was a plant engineer, a karate teacher, an entrepreneur, a drummer, and a member of the Black Panther Party. His mother, named Shirley, was a gourmet chef. Lupe Fiasco was born and raised in the west side of Chicago on the Madison Terrace housing project.
